Job Description
The Role: Commodities Analyst – Vegetable Oils
The Team:
The APAC Crops team is part of S&P Global Energy and produces industry-leading, forward-looking research and thought leadership across agricultural markets. Our analysis is relied upon by global producers, traders, processors, refiners, financial institutions, and policymakers to inform commercial, risk management, and strategic decisions. The team operates in a highly collaborative and fast-moving global environment, working closely with colleagues across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. We place a strong emphasis on analytical rigor, intellectual curiosity, and clear communication, with a focus on translating complex market fundamentals into actionable insight for senior decision-makers.
Responsibilities and Impact:
- Own and manage APAC supply and demand balances across the vegetable oils complex, with a primary focus on palm, soy, rapeseed, and sunflower oils, and secondary coverage of lauric oils (palm kernel oil).
- Conduct continuous fundamental market research, distilling signal from noise to deliver clear, defensible market intelligence through reports, white papers, and presentations.
- Produce high-quality market intelligence, forecasts, and written analysis, translating fundamentals into implications for physical trade flows and cash and futures prices.
- Directly support clients with analytical needs through briefings, ad-hoc analysis, webinars, roundtables, and conference presentations, both virtually and in person.
- Connect micro-level fundamentals with broader macro and policy themes, working closely with the global crops, wider agribusiness, biofuels, and macroeconomic teams.
- Continuously refine analytical frameworks, methodologies, and data usage, including quantitative or automated approaches where appropriate.
Basic Required Qualifications (Technical / Hard Skills)
- Proven experience in palm oil, soft oils, or agricultural commodities research, trading, or analytics.
- Strong understanding of physical vegetable oils markets, including production, processing, logistics, refining, and international trade, with a proven ability to build and interpret supply-demand balance sheets and translate fundamentals into trade flow and price implications.
- Must be able to consistently meet the in-office requirement in line with current company policy (2 days per week or 9 days per month).
