About the role
We’re supporting a major Defence organisation delivering complex naval combat systems and warfare capability across long-term sustainment and upgrade programs.
This role sits within a highly experienced combat systems team supporting front-line naval platforms, with a strong focus on systems integration, lifecycle support, and technical stewardship rather than detailed design.
The Role
As a Combat Systems Engineer, you will play a key role across the end-to-end lifecycle of naval combat systems, working closely with Defence stakeholders, platform engineers, and project teams. Your focus will include:
- Supporting the integration of combat systems into naval platforms
- Managing configuration change, obsolescence, and capability upgrades
- Reviewing and validating technical artefacts and design outputs
- Conducting problem investigations, defect analysis, and technical risk assessments
- Providing technical authority within a governed engineering framework
- Contributing to verification, validation, and acceptance activities
- Engaging directly with Commonwealth and Defence stakeholders
The focus is operational systems, integration, and sustainment in a naval environment.
About You
You will bring strong defence systems engineering experience, ideally gained within a naval or maritime context. Key background requirements:
- Demonstrated experience with naval combat or warfare systems
- Exposure to systems such as weapons, sensors, radar, ordnance, or missile systems
- Strong understanding of how combat systems integrate with ship platforms
- Experience supporting capability upgrades and in-service platforms
- Confidence working within regulated defence engineering environments
- Strong stakeholder and project engagement skills
Applicants with an ex-Navy weapons engineering background are highly regarded, however experienced defence engineers from industry with deep warfare systems exposure are also encouraged to apply.
