College Intern - Sports Management, Physical Education

About This Role

This internship offers entry-level professional duties of moderate difficulty, providing an opportunity for professional training in various City offices. Interns will acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for successful performance, with specific activities varying by department. This particular internship is with the Parks and Recreation Aquatics Department, working a maximum of 30 hours a week from early March through the summer.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the execution of facility management
• Assist in project management
• Report hazardous conditions and accidents, and administer first aid when needed
• Instruct individuals and groups in recreational activities
• Maintain discipline in recreational areas
• Perform related work as required

Requirements

• Enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Physical Education, or any field related to the area of internship
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and early mornings

Nice to have:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
• Swimming abilities
• Customer service skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other City employees, and the general public
• Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

Important Details

• Schedule: maximum 30 hours per week, flexible, including nights, weekends, and early mornings
• Contract: begins early March and continues through the summer
