About the Role

Te Whatu Ora Taranaki is seeking a motivated and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Medical Outpatient Department at Taranaki Base Hospital. This is an advanced practice nursing role; the candidate is responsible for providing specialist education, assessment, care, and coordination to the Multiple Sclerosis cohort here in Taranaki. You will maintain and enhance professional nursing standards and participate as an effective member of the Te Manawa Taki region.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Nurse Specialist will work closely with our Neurology colleagues in Auckland to manage the growing Multiple Sclerosis population here in Taranaki. They will also work cohesively with our booking team to coordinate and deliver efficient and patient-centred care. They will hold independent clinics, facilitate treatment, and provide staff and patient education.

The Medical Outpatient Department is located at Taranaki Base Hospital and runs from Monday to Friday. We hold a variety of clinics run by local and locum Clinicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists in various specialties, including Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, and General Medicine.

About you

Appropriate applicants will need the following:

  • Registration with The Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Prior Clinical Nurse Specialist experience is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience
  • Postgraduate qualification, PG Diploma preferred
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • A personal commitment to ongoing learning and development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong assessment skills and problem-solving ability
  • A strong desire to support those living with chronic conditions from a young age

While not essential, applicants with prior autoimmune or Neurology experience will be highly desired.
