Clinical Laboratory Scientist

About This Role

Working as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and ensuring the quality and proper handling of specimens. The role requires meticulous attention to detail in reporting results and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. This position suits a professional with strong technical skills in a medical facility setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory tests
• Check specimen quality and ensure proper specimen handling
• Accurately enter, review, and report laboratory results
• Perform quality control, calibration, and equipment checks
• Troubleshoot testing or equipment issues and report problems when needed
• Prepare and maintain reagents, controls, and laboratory supplies
• Maintain accurate labeling and tracking of specimens, reagents, and supplies
• Recognize critical or unusual results and take appropriate action
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
• Follow PPE, safety, waste disposal, and infection-control procedures
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, managers, customers, and suppliers
• Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement, training, and continuing education
• Train or supervise unlicensed staff when required
• Answer phones and handle messages professionally
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• 0–3 years of direct laboratory experience
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or Life/Physical Sciences
• Current California CLS license
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills
• Strong typing and computer skills
• Good attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and ability to perform repetitive tasks
• Good color vision may be required for certain laboratory testing
