Clinical Laboratory Scientist

About This Role

Working in the laboratory department, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs technical and complex laboratory analysis to contribute to the quality of patient diagnosis and treatment. This role involves recognizing deviations, analyzing problems, and modifying procedures, serving as a resource for other hospital staff, and potentially assuming supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor or lead.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and treatment of patients by performing technical and complex laboratory tests, following established laboratory procedures
• Work in one or more of the following areas: Chemistry, Bench Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Urinalysis
• Perform quality control procedures and document the test results
• Take appropriate actions to correct out of control results and document the actions taken
• Serve as a resource for others: answer questions, resolve technical irregularities, and correlate new procedures
• Supervise personnel and technical operations in a laboratory section in the absence of an on-site supervisor or Lead
• Perform instrument checks and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and make minor repairs if needed
• Document all work performed and actions taken
• Report normal and abnormal test results as established by Pathology and Hospital procedures
• Use the Laboratory computers to edit, inquire, receive specimens, enter test results, and print results
• Receive patient specimens and prepare them for analysis; also collect certain specimens
• Adhere to the established Hospital safety standards by following safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor or department head
• Apply the Hospital
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent
• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License/ASCP
• At least one year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Trainee within the last five years

Nice to have:

• Current BLS/Healthcare status as per American Heart Association standards
