Civil Engineer (Transportation)

About This Role

This Civil Engineer (Transportation) position with the Department of Transportation supports design and construction teams on major projects, ensuring they meet engineering and environmental standards. Responsibilities

• Develop and review engineering drawings, calculations, and analyses to support permits and resolve environmental issues
• Coordinate environmental and engineering commitments from design documents and permits into construction activities
• Inspect construction sites to check compliance with permits, environmental controls, and engineering requirements
• Work with agencies, project staff, and the public to address environmental and engineering concerns during construction
• Provide engineering and environmental support for permitting, documentation, training, and field operations
• Assess construction and maintenance activities to ensure they follow engineering practices and environmental regulations

Requirements

• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
• One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Ability to perform essential job functions
