About This Role
Leading civil and structural design for plant expansions, retrofits, and new constructions is the core of this engineering role, managing projects from initial concept to completion. The Civil Engineer will oversee structural integrity, facility expansion, and site infrastructure for food processing operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead civil and structural design for plant expansions, retrofits, and new constructions, managing projects from initial concept to completion
- Design and supervise the installation of essential plant infrastructure, including sanitary flooring, drainage systems, utility piping, and structural supports for heavy equipment and silos
- Oversee the development and upgrades of site wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
- Prepare bid documents, select contractors, and manage on-site construction to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and without disrupting plant operations
- Collaborate with process engineers, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to align structural modifications with manufacturing efficiency and food safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP, SQF)
- Perform regular structural assessments of plant buildings, roofs, and site infrastructure (ex. paving, stormwater management) to identify and address maintenance needs proactively
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer designation or eligibility for registration is strongly preferred
- 5+ years of experience in civil or structural engineering within an industrial manufacturing setting
- Experience in the food and beverage processing industry is a significant asset
- In-depth knowledge of industrial wastewater management, hygienic facility design, structural load analysis, and construction management
- Familiarity with building codes, environmental regulations, and food safety standards (ex. CFIA, FDA, HACCP) as they apply to facility design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar design and drafting software
- Must pass a criminal background check upon hire
- Valid driver’s license
