Chief Information Officer

About This Role

This leadership role involves overseeing all Information Technology (IT) functions for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), reporting to the Chief of Staff. The Chief Information Officer is responsible for managing both the Technology Support & Infrastructure and Software Solutions Departments, ensuring IT operations align with the agency's mission and goals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all IT functions at ISBE to ensure operations are effectively managed with the Agency's mission, vision, and goals
• Work with agency leadership to develop strategy, determine priorities, define projects, and develop technology roadmaps to effectively support agency operations
• Communicate technology needs to senior leadership
• Oversee implementation and integration of agency computer system and software applications
• Troubleshoot and find solutions for technology issues as they arise
• Recommend system and application upgrades as needed
• Responsible for management of Technology Support & Infrastructure and Software Solutions departments; ensure internal and external user needs are being met
• Manage security of information technology
• Assess risks and implement controls to ensure systems and associated data maintained is secure
• Perform administrative duties associated with procurement
• Oversee and develop the IT budget
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science plus five years of experience in IT management in the last seven years, or, a Bachelor's degree in any field plus seven years of experience in IT management in the last ten years (copy of transcripts required at time of application)
• Five years of IT management experience
• Extensive knowledge of information technology
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Ability to work independently on issues and projects and to participate cooperatively on group projects
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills
• Outstanding communication skills
• Strong analytical /critical thinking/problem solving skills
