About the role

Duties

This is a full time permanent position that serves as the Chief of the Informatics Service at the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS), Big Spring, Texas. Incumbent will provide leadership to and participate as a member of an innovative team of clinical and analytical professionals. The incumbent works independently to develop and implement systems to assist with national and VISN-wide initiatives and oversight of critical functions. This position will conduct in-depth analysis of business and clinical operations throughout the health care system and provide business intelligence to senior management. Work performed is directly tied to strategic planning and development of operational solutions. Incumbent is responsible for identification of information needed to manage critical aspects of field operations. Incumbent is responsible for project planning, development of information systems and analytical studies to establish a facility-wide Informatics section is a primary responsibility. Incumbent will conduct critical studies that provide senior leaders with in-depth analyses of specific clinical and operational issues as they relate to clinical best practice, business operations and restructuring of processes and/or services. Incumbent is responsible for other duties such as, but not limited to: clinical decision support; population management; project design and management; report algorithms; database administration; benchmarking; statistical analysis; operational intelligence; business case development; business solutions; data warehousing; advanced queries in Microsoft Access, Excel and SQL; written and oral reporting. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Minimum Requirements: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience at the equivalent of a GS-11. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
