Chemist

About This Role

This entry-level bench chemist position supports the 24/7 unionized laboratory at a caprolactam manufacturing plant, focusing on in-process and finished-product testing for ammonia and sulfuric acid production units. The role involves performing routine instrumental and wet-chemistry analyses and environmental compliance testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine instrumental and wet-chemistry analyses to support ammonia and sulfuric acid production
• Record results electronically
• Prepare and document laboratory solutions, reagents, and quality-control check standards
• Collect samples as needed
• Conduct environmental compliance testing at field locations throughout the plant

Requirements

• Associate of Science degree or higher in chemistry
• Demonstrated ability to work safely and follow good chemical hygiene practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use a laboratory information management system (LIMS)
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize work effectively
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both unionized and non-unionized employees
• Availability to work the rotating schedule described below and occasional overtime as required by business needs

Nice to have:

• Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry
• Two or more years of laboratory experience (relevant college laboratory experience will be considered)
• Coursework or hands-on experience in quantitative chemical analysis, including colorimetric, titrimetric, and gravimetric methods
• Coursework or hands-on experience operating spectrophotometers or gas chromatographs
• Ability to develop training materials and instruct others
• Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or a similar quality management system
• Familiarity with environmental testing protocols
