Certified Welding Inspector

About This Role

Caring for the quality and safety of welded products is the core of this inspection role, ensuring compliance with all applicable criteria. The position suits a Certified Welding Inspector with experience in structural steel and general construction, who is looking to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations
• Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections
• Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
• Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
• Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut etc.
• Record results of tests and welding inspections
• Issue and follow up on non-conformances until the close out
• Plan and conduct the analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component
• Review all welded products or components and provide input to the decision of whether to accept or reject the product
• Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
• Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management
• Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
• Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
• Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (example: Soil, concrete or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
• Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
• Be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
• Ability to read blueprints and understand, and interpret tolerances
• Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication
• Ability to work well independently and with others
• Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime
