Certified Welding Inspector

About This Role

This role involves performing shop inspections on fabricated steel products to ensure they meet AWS codes, customer specifications, and the company's quality control procedures. The inspector verifies material usage, fit-up, and dimensions, and conducts final welding and coating inspections, documenting all results.

Responsibilities

• Look up and print drawings for use
• Read and interpret drawings, including welding symbols
• Monitor welders for adherence to weld procedures
• Provide fit-up check prior to welding and final visual weld inspections
• Administer weld tests to welder applicants and current employees as needed
• Perform work in a reasonable amount of time and with minimal distractions to production
• Understand production logs and status of material in process
• Write reports for daily weld inspections, galvanizing, and painting
• Communicate with others, particularly welding staff, to correct welding errors
• Report discrepancies in quantities or other problems
• Use non-conformance process and reporting to resolve issues
• Assist 3rd party inspectors in locating and inspecting projects
• Follow plant safety rules
• Perform Magnetic Particle Inspections (Yoke Method) (if qualified)
• Perform Ultrasonic Shear Wave Inspections (if qualified)

Requirements

• Current AWS CWI Certification
• Computer Skills (Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite)
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to read and understand specifications from various agencies
• Comprehensive understanding of mill test reports
• Valid Driver's License

Nice to have:

• ASNT Magnetic Particle Level II Certification
• ASNT Ultrasonic Shear Wave Inspection Certification

• Environment: Job requires outdoor and indoor work in all weather conditions with extreme temperatures; majority of work is done indoors in a heated area
