Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

About This Role

This night-shift post on the cardiac ward pairs patient care with mentoring new nurses. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist provides anesthesia care in the operating room for surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures under the general supervision of an anesthesiologist. This role involves preoperative evaluation, postoperative follow-up, and acting as a patient advocate and liaison between patients, families, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Anesthetize patients
• Select drugs for anesthesia and emergency treatment
• Induce and maintain anesthesia
• Monitor the patient and adjust medications as needed
• Treat variants of the anesthesia
• Communicate patient's status with the surgeon, anesthetist, and Charge CRNA
• Assess patient status, interpret hemodynamic waveforms and equipment status
• Take corrective measures to keep patient in stable pre, peri, and post anesthesia
• Conduct thorough preop evaluation of patient including chart review
• Instill confidence in patient
• Organize OR room with equipment monitors and drugs needed for the procedure
• Perform diagnostic equipment checks
• Coordinate with ancillary, nursing, and physician staff to ensure a safe environment for patient including positioning, equipment troubleshooting, and review of surgical procedure
• Respond to codes and maintain the airway
• Provide anesthesia support to assigned areas
• Chart accurately, completely, and efficiently into patient EMR
• Transport patient safely, continue to monitor airway, and give sign-out report to receiving team
• Serve as an anesthesia expert, mentor, and preceptor to peers, staff, residents, students, nurses, and ancillary staff

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Nursing (Required)
• Licensed Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
• Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania)
• Basic Life Support Certification
