Certified Nurse Midwife

About This Role

This part-time role seeks a Certified Nurse Midwife to join a dynamic midwifery service, providing comprehensive women's health care across the lifespan. The position involves both outpatient ambulatory and inpatient settings, focusing on disease prevention, health promotion, and family-centered health education.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat low to moderate risk obstetrical patients for antepartum, labor, and postpartum care
• Triage patients to appropriate level of care when outside of the CNM's scope of practice, including ambulatory clinic encounters, hospital setting, and via phone
• Evaluate patients for labor; admit to the hospital and manage labors of low to moderate risk patients
• Work in collaboration with PMG physicians, OB hospitalists, and Maternal Fetal Medicine
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes, specific to the obstetrical and gynecological population from menarche through the remainder of the lifespan
• Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions within scope of practice, including obstetrical, and common gynecologic acute and chronic healthcare issues
• Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs
• Record physical findings, and formulate plan and prognosis, based on patients' condition
• Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dangerous drugs
• Educate patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications
• Work in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral
• May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment
• Facilitate evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and Quality and Standards according to protocols, and receive and implement constructive directives
• Perform other functions as required or needed by the department

Requirements

• Master's Degree
• Graduate of a nurse midwifery program accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
• Current unrestricted license to practice in the State of New Mexico as a CNM
• NM Board of Pharmacy (CSR) and Federal DEA required
• Able to obtain electronic fetal monitoring certification
