Certified Interpreter

About This Role

This role involves providing essential medical interpreting and translation services to children and families within a healthcare setting. The interpreter will assess and respond to the unique interpretation needs of each family, considering their developmental, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual contexts. The position requires strong communication with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient and family services.

Responsibilities

• Identify, assess, and respond to child/family interpretation needs within the broader healthcare and familial context of developmental, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
• Provide medical interpreting services and translation services for discharge instructions
• Communicate with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families
• Advocate for the language needs of families throughout the continuum of care
• Keep accurate stats of all patient encounters
• Assist with triaging immediate interpreter needs and dispatching interpreters
• Perform job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers, and others
• Perform other job functions as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Experience in a multi-cultural or health care setting, and experience with interpretation or translation preferred
• Spanish language abilities and skills, written and verbal, required
• Ability to interpret and translate medical and healthcare terminology from English to the second language
• Ability to articulate and respond to cultural differences as related to healthcare issues
• Ability to work in a highly regulated environment with multiple demands
