About This Role

Canvassing for student recruitment and community outreach is the core of this role, helping to fill seats for twelve schools in New York City. The role suits an enthusiastic, organized, and community-minded individual with strong communication skills who is committed to the mission of college success and civic engagement for scholars.

Responsibilities

• Drive inquiries and applications by tabling at community events, organizations, schools, and other frequented locations
• Create and execute a canvassing plan and schedule targeting specific areas and organizations for student recruitment
• Leverage existing relationships and develop new ones within the community to engage families about enrollment opportunities
• Assist the enrollment team with ongoing activities and events such as school fairs and Open House events
• Enter inquiries and applications into tracking systems and databases
• Complete other enrollment and marketing-related tasks as designated by the Senior Director of Enrollment and Family Engagement and the Director of Enrollment

• Unwavering commitment to the Democracy Prep mission of college success and authentic civic engagement for scholars
• Utilize subject-matter expertise to engage with prospective parents and scholars and partner with teams, schools, and others to maximize new student enrollment
• Adapt communication style to fit the needs of your audience, building a sense of shared purpose and progress
• Deep understanding of how the DPPS mission supports and integrates into the communities we serve
• Bring maturity, humility, a strong work ethic, and a sense of humor to your role at DPPS
• Spanish speaking candidates are highly preferred
• Extensive relationships within the community, including CBOs and a wide network of community organizations
• Proven ability to develop and implement canvassing strategies aligned with organizational goals
• In-depth knowledge of admissions processes and best practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Prioritized applicants will have:

• At least 2 years of canvassing experience in any capacity OR
• At least 1 year of experience working in any capacity in a New York City Charter School OR
• Extensive knowledge of Democracy Prep's work; Democracy Prep alumni, parents, guardians, or others connecting directly with our community are highly encouraged to apply
