Cable Technician

About This Role

This role is for an experienced Infrastructure Technician II or III, supporting large-scale data center deployments. The technician will be responsible for installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic, copper, and low-voltage cabling systems within mission-critical environments. Senior-level technicians will also serve as technical leaders, mentoring junior team members, overseeing quality and safety standards, and performing advanced fiber fusion splicing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, certify, troubleshoot, and decommission structured cabling systems
• Perform fiber optic installations, testing, remediation, and fusion splicing
• Install and remove racks, cabinets, cable trays, pathways, patch panels, and network infrastructure
• Conduct Fluke, OTDR, and VFL testing and maintain testing documentation
• Read and execute work from blueprints, drawings, specifications, and manufacturer guidelines
• Support rack-and-stack activities and network equipment installations
• Label, route, and organize fiber and copper cabling according to industry standards
• Maintain accurate records of testing results, materials, and project progress
• Ensure compliance with all site safety, quality, and production standards
• Troubleshoot cabling and connectivity issues in data center environments
• Communicate project updates and technical findings with customers, supervisors, and team members
• Mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance
• Assist with material planning, tool management, and jobsite readiness
• Support emergency service requests and project deadlines as required

Requirements

• 3+ years (L2) to 5+ years (L3) of structured cabling, telecom, or low-voltage infrastructure experience
• Data center experience strongly preferred
• Experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic and copper cabling systems
• Fiber expertise including single-mode and multi-mode fiber installations
• Experience with Fluke, OTDR, and VFL testing equipment
• Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, and technical documentation
• Experience installing racks, cabinets, cable trays, pathways, and related infrastructure
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in data center environments, confined spaces, and at heights
• Strong safety mindset and adherence to customer/site safety protocols
• Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
• Ability to distinguish cable colors for identification and troubleshooting
• Strong communication skills and professionalism

• Experience with Panduit, Comm Scope, Corning, Leviton, or similar manufacturers

• Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA, and BICSI standards
• Team lead or mentoring experience
• Associate degree or technical certification
