About the role
As a Buyer in the Procurement Department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Sourcing Strategies, Contracts, and Cost optimization projects of Purchased items (Packaging and Raw Materials, Finished Goods and Indirect spend) on a timely basis and as per planned requirements to ensure that production in all manufacturing units (In house or Copack) are supported for Malaysia.
Key responsibilities
- Develop in-depth understanding of market dynamics affecting commodities and feedstock, cost modelling, major players, complexities and demand supply gap
- Use leading edge techniques in strategic sourcing, forecasting price trends, portfolio analysis, tenders, and contracts to decide the right time to buy
- Develop, lead and execute procurement strategies and negotiate contracts to maximize benefit to the organization
- Perform cost benefit analysis and benchmarking of the market and competition to find cost saving opportunities
- Identify risks and opportunities and work out plans to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities using creative solutions
- Decide action plans based on vendor performance and ensure good rapport with suppliers and Copackers
- Identify and propose new, more reliable and/or lower cost sources of supply
- Coordinate with vendors and factory team to facilitate timely deliveries of input materials to factory/Copack
- Resolve all issues related to input materials' quality, specifications, revalidations, damages/losses and commercial issues
- Develop contingency plans and business continuity plans
About you
- Degree in Operations Management, Engineering or equivalent Graduation or Post Graduation Degree
- At least 5 years of experience in Procurement function in a FMCG or related organization
- Expertise in commodity management, supplier management and systems and processes
- Able to work independently and highly motivated
- Able to lead a team and also a good team player
- Able to build good relations with all levels
- Ability to work under tight schedule and pressure
- Self-starter with strong leadership, good inter-personal skills, analytical skills and high sense of responsibility and commitment to job
