Business Intelligence Developer

About This Role

This role is for a versatile and experienced Data Engineer / BI Developer who is strong in backend data engineering as well as in unlocking and visualizing data via Power BI. The position combines building robust data pipelines and data models with developing high-performance and user-friendly reporting for business users, realizing end-to-end data solutions from raw data to insights. The candidate will ensure data is correctly processed, modeled, made accessible, and effectively usable via dashboards and reports.

Responsibilities

• Migrate existing data pipelines and data warehouse structures
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and data transformations
• Model data according to common principles (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault)
• Develop SQL- and Python-based data processing logic
• Contribute to best practices around data engineering, versioning, and deployment
• Improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the data lake house
• Develop Power BI datasets and data models (semantic layer)
• Build dashboards and reports for operational and strategic insights
• Translate business questions into concrete visualizations and KPIs
• Optimize performance and user experience of reports
• Implement data governance and access management within Power BI
• Support self-service BI by guiding business users
• Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders
• Actively contribute to new use cases
• Onboard new data domains
• Bridge between technical teams and business (from data to insight)

Requirements

• Higher education (Master or Bachelor)
• Demonstrable experience as a BI Consultant
• Demonstrable experience as a BI Developer
• Proven experience with requirements analysis
• Proven experience with Data Management (ETL)
• Demonstrable experience with reporting tools
• Language requirement: Dutch at European CEFR level C2
• Proven experience with Git and versioning workflows
• Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric or Azure data stack (Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, ...)
• Demonstrable experience with Power BI (building semantic model, building dashboards and reports)
• Good knowledge of data warehouse modeling
• IT-Code sign
• NDA sign
• Strong knowledge and project experience of SQL
• Proven experience with Azure Data Factory
• Proven experience with dbt
• Demonstrated experience with a programming language such as Python

• Duration: November 2, 2026 - December 31, 2027
• Work format: hybrid (2 to 3 days onsite per week)

About the Company

Substantial investments will be made in process renewal in the coming years, with underlying technology being renewed and data pipelines and transformations further developed. The FOCUS development organization will also provide support to a number of police units that want to get started with Power BI as a client of the current FOCUS datalake API.
