About This Role
Developing business intelligence is at the heart of this role, helping to own and improve the Microsoft Fabric platform that powers internal reporting. The developer will make the platform more robust, migrate older pipelines, and maintain the Power BI semantic models. This position suits a BI Developer interested in moving towards AI-mediated development.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the dataflows, pipelines, and lakehouses behind the platform, and deliver new sources and fields for stakeholders
- Strengthen the Power Query (M) that loads data from REST APIs, with dependable pagination, retries, and incremental loads, so that failures are caught rather than passed downstream
- Own scheduled refreshes and pipeline runs, fix failures at their root, and add alerting and data-quality checks
- Move credentials into managed connections and secret storage, and maintain workspace access and row-level security
- Keep the Power BI semantic models healthy as the data layer changes: fix refreshes, repoint sources, and maintain DAX measures and relationships
- Move older pipelines onto our layered architecture, replace copied logic with shared components, and retire what is no longer needed
- Introduce source control, deployment pipelines, and separate development and production environments
- Write runbooks and design notes so that anyone on the team can support the platform
- Help move transformation logic into SQL and Python in Fabric notebooks where it makes the platform easier to maintain
- Use AI tools in your day-to-day work, and build the standards, templates, and checks that let AI build and change pipelines safely
Requirements
- 3–5 years in BI development or data engineering, mostly on the Microsoft data platform
- Experience supporting production pipelines and semantic models, including fixing failures at their root cause
- Experience taking over and improving solutions built by others
- A methodical, ownership-minded approach and clear communication
- A genuine interest in AI-assisted development and where it adds the most value
- Hands-on with Dataflow Gen2, Data Pipelines, Lakehouses, and OneLake
- Strong M; comfortable debugging and optimising complex queries written by others
- Pagination, rate limits, OAuth and token authentication, and incremental loads for REST APIs
- Star schemas, relationships, storage modes, and row-level security for Semantic Models and DAX, with good DAX (filter context and iterators) to read, fix, and extend measures
