About the role
Our client, in the higher-ed space, is looking for a Business Development & Event Marketing Specialist to join their team. This role 3-6 months with the potential to convert full-time and would require you to go onsite 2 days a week, plus offsite events!
Under the Director of Marketing, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Marketing and Communications team in driving revenue growth and market expansion by executing effective business development initiatives. This person will attend conferences and support conference logistics. They will also be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, cultivating strong relationships with exciting clients, potential clients, learners, and strategic partners.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
Business Development/Events: 75%
- Identifies opportunities for new business development through market research and competitive analysis.
- Supports the creation of promotional materials and presentations for use in client meetings, conferences, and events, ensuring they effectively communicate the value of offerings.
- Attends conferences and coordinates transport/shipping of items to/from local, domestic, and international conference sites. This includes coverage for events delivered both in-person and virtually through various platforms.
- Serves as one of the primary points of contact at conferences to answer questions about course offerings, including capturing lead contact information.
- Follows up with leads to foster business growth by converting prospects to clients for the program teams.
- Implements a multi-channel follow-up strategy.
- Attend Conferences and Events and be able to speak to prospective clients and learners about offering.
- Analyzes data to identify areas of improvement to refine business development and marketing strategies.
- Conduct A/B testing to optimize the performance of follow-up strategies.
- Share data and insights between Marketing and program teams to improve understanding of leads and optimize communication.
Marketing Administration: 25%
- Orders marketing and promotional materials, and manages inventory (i.e., on-site, at vendor sites).
- Requests purchase orders and submits vendor invoices to finance for payment as needed. This includes timely follow-up to meet budgetary deadlines. Provides reports as needed.
- Maintains distribution lists and updates contact information for specific subject areas, newsletters, and email blasts.
- Supports the coordination and execution of both in-person and virtual events across multiple platforms (i.e., ON24, Zoom).
- Distributes communications to various internal and external constituencies, such as marketing/promotional emails, and tracks responses.
- Creates custom reports from Salesforce and converts them to Microsoft Excel on participant/client data, registration information, webinar data, and marketing activities for programs.
- Performs proofreading and quality-control checks on all work to ensure content and visuals are accurate and aligned with the channel and SEO strategy, with branding, and with marketing campaign strategies and goals.
- Maintain marketing databases and contact lists, including ensuring data is up-to-date and aligned with marketing needs in the Salesforce CRM system.
- Compiles basic information and drafts routine communications/marketing content for recurring activities and events (e.g., department newsletters).
Required:

Bachelor's Degree required with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in a business development role, preferably in a corporate, retail marketing, or front-line customer-facing setting.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-moving and high-volume work environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, and Slack.

Proficient in using marketing software and tools, such as email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and analytics platforms.

Working knowledge of digital marketing channels, including social media, content marketing, SEO, and email marketing.

Prior experience implementing lead segmentation strategies.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Proven success leading projects from beginning to end and meeting revenue mandates.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize, including delivering high-quality work products under tight deadlines.

Analytical skills to interpret data and provide insights for marketing optimization.

Team-oriented, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and resourceful.

Must be able to travel locally and work occasional evenings and weekends.

Works effectively in a fast-moving and changing environment

Ability to grasp and understand new market needs and gauge cultural differences.

Must be able to lift 20 pounds and help transport marketing materials and boxes to events and other locations.
Preferred:
- Prior Salesforce or other CRM system experience is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with both PC and MAC.
- Familiarity with AI tools is a plus.
