About The Role FM is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Engineer to spearhead growth initiatives within its fire protection and building materials segments across India and the Middle East. This pivotal role involves identifying new market opportunities, fostering strong relationships with manufacturers and regulatory bodies, and supporting the certification process for products seeking FM approval. The successful candidate will play an integral role in expanding FM's footprint in these regions by promoting the value of certified products and ensuring compliance with regional standards. The role requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to business development.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least five years of relevant experience, preferably in the fire protection industry or related industrial sectors. Experience in business development, technical sales, or marketing is essential, with a proven ability to translate complex certification requirements into compelling value propositions for clients. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including building and maintaining relationships with manufacturers, labs, and regulatory agencies, are critical. The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage leads and follow-up diligently. Prior experience working in or traveling to the Middle East is advantageous, as is familiarity with product certification processes, fire protection products, and FM Standards.
Responsibilities
- Drive business development efforts across India and the Middle East to increase adoption of FM Approved products and certifications.
- Identify, qualify, and engage with manufacturers, influencing decision-makers to pursue FM Approvals certification for their products.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with manufacturers, end-users, and regulatory authorities to facilitate certification and market growth.
- Represent FM Approvals at industry seminars, conferences, and trade shows, delivering technical presentations and engaging with industry stakeholders.
- Stay informed about regional regulatory requirements and certification standards to ensure compliance and provide expert guidance to clients.
- Travel as needed, including overnight stays, to support customer engagements and participate in industry events (approximately 40% travel).
- Contribute to certification projects by assisting with project scoping, conducting audits or witness testing, preparing documentation, and reporting findings.
- Develop and apply technical expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines to support internal teams and external customers in understanding certification processes and standards.
