About The Role FM is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Engineer to spearhead growth initiatives within the fire protection and building materials segments across India and the Middle East. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying new business opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, and supporting product certification initiatives in these regions. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background and excellent interpersonal skills to influence decision-makers and promote FM’s certification services. The Business Development Engineer will serve as a key representative of FM at industry events, seminars, and conferences, delivering technical presentations and building brand awareness. Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with manufacturers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to ensure compliance with regional standards and expand FM’s market presence. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, complemented by at least five years of relevant experience in business development, technical sales, or marketing within the fire protection industry or related industrial sectors. Proven ability to translate complex technical certification requirements into compelling value propositions for customers is essential. The candidate should demonstrate strong lead management skills, disciplined follow-up, and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with manufacturers, testing laboratories, and regulatory agencies is highly desirable. Familiarity with product certification processes, fire protection products, FM Standards, and previous exposure to markets in the Middle East will be considered advantageous. The role requires a proactive, confident communicator capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive business development initiatives across India and the Middle East to increase the adoption of FM Approved products and certification services.
• Identify, qualify, and engage with manufacturers, influencing decision-makers to pursue FM Approvals certification for their products.
• Establish and nurture strategic relationships with manufacturers, end-users, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders to promote FM’s certification offerings.
• Represent FM at industry seminars, conferences, and trade shows by delivering technical presentations and participating in panel discussions.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional regulatory and certification requirements to ensure compliance and provide expert guidance.
• Travel as required, including overnight stays, to support customer engagements, participate in industry events, and conduct on-site assessments (approximately 40% travel).
• Contribute to certification projects by assisting in project scoping, conducting audits or witnessing testing, preparing documentation, and reporting findings.
• Develop and apply technical expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines to support internal teams and clients, ensuring alignment with certification standards and client needs.
