About The Role The Local New Business Developer at Sysco plays a vital role in expanding the company's market presence by identifying and securing new business opportunities. This position is responsible for executing strategic plans aimed at increasing sales and market share within designated regions. The role involves leveraging advanced analytics, utilizing the Salesforce platform for lead management, and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop tailored proposals that meet client needs. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with prospects, influence decision-makers, and facilitate a seamless transition of new accounts to the sales team for ongoing management. This role requires a proactive, results-oriented individual with exceptional communication and negotiation skills who can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED. Candidates should have at least 3+ years of relevant sales experience in a B2B professional sales environment, with a proven track record of new business development over the past 2 or more years.
- Preferred candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent educational background.
Knowledge And Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret reports and derive actionable insights from data.
- Solid financial acumen, including familiarity with profit and loss statements, food costs, and expense ratios.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively influence stakeholders and build trust.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with CRM tools, particularly Salesforce.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
- Understanding of foodservice industry operations, marketing principles, and customer relationship management.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and adaptable to change, with a growth mindset and willingness to learn.
Responsibilities As part of Sysco's Leadership Framework, the Local New Business Developer is expected to embody core qualities, shape the future, and deliver tangible business results. Key responsibilities include:
- Executing the local new business plan aligned with regional financial objectives, ensuring consistent progress toward sales targets.
- Collaborating with regional sales leaders to develop comprehensive business development strategies tailored to regional market dynamics.
- Utilizing advanced analytics to prioritize opportunities and refine regional strategies for maximum impact.
- Managing and prioritizing intel opportunities identified through the Salesforce platform, with leadership approval.
- Focusing on prospects generating below $5 million in annual revenue, including large TRS, multi-location accounts, and LC2 opportunities identified via analytics.
- Working collaboratively with cross-functional sales teams to address prospect concerns, build trust, and shorten sales cycles.
- Leading proposal development for local contracts, ensuring alignment with client needs and objectives.
- Expanding business development efforts by supporting other sales team members in securing key accounts to meet profit plans.
- Reviewing sales objectives and results regularly and developing action plans for continuous improvement.
- Participating in ongoing training, certifications, and industry seminars to stay current with market trends and enhance skillsets.
- Building and maintaining relationships with brokers, distributors, and industry peers to strengthen market presence.
- Gathering industry intelligence to understand competitive positioning and identify emerging opportunities.
- Maintaining accurate records of prospect activity within the Salesforce platform and ensuring data integrity.
- Identifying opportunities for promotions, additional services, and distribution channels to increase sales.
- Engaging with senior management through presentations and consultations on industry trends and sales performance.
- Representing Sysco at sales events, food shows, and customer engagements, providing valuable feedback and insights.
- Staying informed about Sysco’s product offerings, value-added solutions, and technological tools to enhance client value propositions.
