About This Role
Driving a school bus to transport students to and from school and school-related activities safely and efficiently is the core of this role. This position suits a responsible individual who can maintain discipline and adhere to schedules and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Obey all traffic laws
- Observe all safety regulations for school buses
- Maintain discipline when students are on the bus
- Report undisciplined students to the proper authority
- Keep assigned bus clean
- Keep to assigned schedule
- Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
- Discharge students only at authorized stops
- Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips
- Transport only authorized students
- Report all accidents and complete required reports
- Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
- Participate in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the transportation director
Requirements
- Valid license to drive a school bus with appropriate CDL
- Such additional health and age requirements as the Board may require
Important Details
- Schedule: full-time and/or part-time employment during an entire school year
- Working conditions: occasionally works in temperatures above 100° and below 32°, occasionally walks on slippery surfaces, must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacts with public and other workers, direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others, frequently loud noise level, ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students
- Physical demands: restricted to bus duties requiring lifting/moving of items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Travel: occasional local travel and/or overnight travel may be required
