About the role

Duties

  • Responsible for Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution System (PPBES) functions involving the formulation, justification, and execution of budgets for assigned activities, programs, or projects.
  • Identify and/or analyze spending trends, obligations, expenditures and reimbursements.
  • Utilize automated budget and/or reporting system(s) to input financial data and produce reports.
  • Serve as a financial consultant to management on issues such as: budgeting strategies and techniques.

Experience required:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: performing initial analysis of budget requests; utilizing budget system(s) such as General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS).  This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of budget policies and procedures
  • Skill in budget execution and/or formulation
  • Skill in utilizing budget systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with the application package if you are using education to substitute for experience.
