Bright Horizons Counselor - Special Education

About This Role

Working with students who have emotional and behavioral problems is the core of this counseling role within a day treatment program. The counselor helps students identify their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their home, school, and community environments, while also supporting teachers. This position suits a professional dedicated to helping students overcome learning impediments and make positive educational, occupational, and life plans.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and groups
• Help identify student strengths and weaknesses as they relate to home, school, and community environments
• Provide support to teachers
• Counsel students
• Consult on student issues
• Coordinate the school life of students
• Help students overcome problems that impede learning
• Assist students in making viable educational, occupational, and life plans

Requirements

• Desire and ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational and emotional goals
• Ability to organize tasks and manage time
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and other staff, including the ability to discuss sensitive topics
• Computer skills (Google/Microsoft Suite)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Guidance, Education, or Social Work (or similar field)
• Seeking Licensed Counselor/Therapist
