Bookkeeper

About This Role

Bookkeeping for a family-run used car dealership is the core of this role, which involves maintaining accurate financial records and managing day-to-day bookkeeping across the business. This position suits someone with strong practical accounts experience who is confident managing both accounts payable and receivable, completing reconciliations, and preparing VAT returns.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and promptly
• Process supplier invoices, reconcile supplier statements, and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare supplier payment runs and respond to payment queries
• Raise sales invoices, allocate receipts, and follow up on outstanding balances
• Complete bank and credit card reconciliations, investigating and resolving differences
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
• Prepare VAT returns for review and submission
• Support month-end processes, including posting journals and assisting with accruals and prepayments
• Liaise with colleagues, customers, and suppliers to resolve accounts queries
• Help improve processes and maintain effective financial controls

Requirements

• Proven experience in a Bookkeeper or similar broad accounts role
• Experience managing both purchase and sales ledgers
• Good working knowledge of bank reconciliations, VAT returns, and day-to-day bookkeeping
• Experience using Sage 50
• Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
• Clear communication skills and a professional approach to confidential information
