About the Role:

Denver Public Schools is seeking a passionate and bilingual ELA-S Teacher to deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction to students whose primary language is Spanish. This role supports English language development while fostering academic growth across subject areas in an inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment. The ELA-S Teacher plays a critical role in helping students build both language proficiency and subject matter knowledge essential for lifelong success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction that integrates English language acquisition with core academic subjects.
  • Promote student confidence and competence by balancing skill development with conceptual understanding.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and technology to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Monitor and support student behavior in alignment with school and district policies.
  • Assess, track, and report student progress in academic, behavioral, and social development.
  • Communicate regularly with families, staff, and school leaders to support student success.
  • Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials based on DPS curriculum and state standards.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as tutoring, coaching, or summer programs as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s required only for Concurrent Enrollment positions).
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license or proof of application (CDE Receipt accepted for 90 days).
  • View license requirements by subject area
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
  • Must pass a Spanish Language Proficiency (SLP) assessment:
  • Berlitz Spanish exam required.
  • Praxis II: Spanish World Language Exam (#5195) with a score of 163+ is also accepted.
