Benefits Specialist

About This Role

The Benefits Specialist provides support to associates by answering questions about the company's benefits policies and procedures via phone, email, and a ticketing system. This role suits someone with strong knowledge of benefits plans and coverage provisions, who can apply them to individual associate situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide benefits assistance to associates
• Understand benefits plans and coverage provisions and apply them to individual associate situations
• Respond to benefits-related inquiries in a timely manner by means of telephone, email, or ticketing system
• Explain benefits eligibility and educate associates on how to make benefits changes online
• Utilize the organization's HRIS system and external vendor portals to view associate information, including elections
• Examine associate records to answer inquiries and provide information to authorized persons
• Support field and corporate office staff regarding benefits questions
• Partner with third-party vendor to process QMCSO’s
• Process invoices accurately and timely
• Assist with annual benefits open enrollment communications to all associates
• Assist with HR-related audits of benefits data and other statistical reports
• May assist in coordinating COBRA notifications through a third-party administrator
• May assist in monitoring requests for leaves of absence to ensure state and federal compliance
• May process life insurance and disability claims forms, ensuring payments are properly issued by the company
• Escalate issues and/or problems to the appropriate manager, as necessary

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
• Minimum of one to two years of experience providing exceptional customer service over the phone and through email
• Experience in benefits preferred
• Working knowledge of a skill or discipline that requires basic analytic ability
• Overall understanding of the work environment and process
• Working knowledge of the organization
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
