Job Description and Duties

Provides behavioral services to consumers following established standards and procedures for the Canyon Springs General Admission, 7505 Admission, and STAR Crisis Admission clients. The Behavior Specialist II will perform functional behavioral assessments; develop behavioral strategies in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (IDT), providers, and other behavior specialists for prevention and intervention plans. The Behavior Specialist II will provide on-site direct care, modeling, coaching, instruction and training with consumers and their caretakers/direct care staff in community settings, including consumer’s homes. Must have drivers license.

Effective October 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three (3) percent in exchange for five (5) hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Department Information

Canyon Springs is located in Riverside County in Cathedral City, 110 miles southeast of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley. Recreation/cultural attractions include golf, tennis, desert preserves, parks, rock climbing, hiking, biking, museums, art galleries, and theater. Next door is well-known city of Palm Springs. Although known as a winter resort area, increasing numbers are making the Coachella Valley their year-round home.

Knowledge of: Principles of applied behavior analysis and ethical considerations regarding behavior modification, behavioral assessment and procedures to increase and decrease behavior and managing behavioral emergencies, basic types and characteristics of developmental disabilities, organizational structure of regional centers and State-operated facilities and the respective roles and responsibilities of staff, laws and regulations relevant to behavioral programming, which includes the use of restrictive procedures, methods of defining and measuring behavior, methods of collecting and displaying data, methods to promote behavioral generalization and maintenance.

Ability to: Develop cooperative and harmonious relationships with service providers, regional center staff and others. Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team model. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Communicate effectively. Analyze complex behavior and work with professional personnel to coordinate effective behavioral services.
