About This Role
Building and scaling products at internet product companies is the core of this backend software engineering role. You will own backend services, APIs, and microservices end-to-end, contributing to a new healthcare technology platform that supports patient journeys, clinical workflows, and hospital operations. This high-ownership role suits engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, making architectural decisions, and building reliable, secure, and scalable systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate scalable backend services, APIs, and microservices using Java or Python
- Own features end-to-end, from architecture and development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Design efficient data models, API contracts, caching strategies, and asynchronous, event-driven workflows
- Build reliable, secure, and high-performance systems with strong automated testing and production monitoring
- Work with relational and NoSQL databases, Redis, and messaging systems such as Kafka
- Write design documents, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and contribute to technical decision-making
- Follow security and data privacy best practices, including access controls, encryption, and audit trails
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to on-call support
- Use AI coding assistants and agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot to improve development productivity while maintaining code quality and security
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clinical and operations teams to translate real-world requirements into technical solutions
- Mentor Associate Software Engineers and help establish strong engineering practices
Requirements
- 3–4 years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years in internet product companies such as consumer internet, e-commerce, fintech, or marketplaces
- Strong proficiency in Java or Python, with hands-on experience in Spring Boot or FastAPI
- Experience taking a product feature or service through design, development, launch, and production operations
- Understanding of scalability, availability, consistency, reliability, and architectural trade-offs
- Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming, design patterns, class design, and API contracts
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL or MongoDB, along with Redis
- Experience with Kafka or similar messaging and streaming technologies
- Practical experience using AI coding tools or agents for planning, coding, testing, debugging, and refactoring, with the ability to validate their output
- Strong data structures, algorithms, and analytical thinking
- Ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, communicate technical decisions, and collaborate with senior stakeholders
