Duties
- Making repairs to vehicle components such as radiators, engine thermostats, cylinders, mufflers, brakes, catalytic converters, clutch assemblies, alternators, carburetors, and suspensions.
- Performing proper maintenance using various wrenches (sockets, torques, impacts, etc.), ratchets, pliers, brake tools, screwdrivers, engine analyzers, capacity testers, hand-held computer diagnostics, and other mechanical equipment used to test functionality.
- Understanding safety procedures and practices; disposing of hazardous materials (e.g. oil, antifreeze, brake fluids, batteries); and following the Occupational Safety and Health Administration practices and procedures.
Qualifications
For wage grade positions, a specific length of time and experience is not required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to perform general maintenance on vehicles such as maintaining, equipping, and repairing vehicles without more than normal supervision.
In order to qualify, applicants must meet the screen-out element described below.
Screen-Out Element: Ability to do the work of an Automotive Worker without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen-out element to be considered further. To meet the screen-out element, you should document experience or show the ability to meet the specialized experience below.
WG-07: You qualify for the WG-07 level (starting hourly rate $21.91) if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG-6 level performing duties such as: assisting in installing, cleaning, removing, and/or repairing various parts to include but not limited to, sensors, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, water pumps, and a variety of belts and hoses; assisting with the assembly or disassembly of major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials; assisting with performing visual and operational checks to locate worn, dirty, or malfunctioning parts; ensuring gas levels are full; maintaining garage space by removing trash, discarding used parts, cleaning up spilled oil and other fluids; cleaning interior and exterior parts in order to create a flawless appearance for the entire fleet of armored protected vehicles; and delivering vehicles to designated locations.
WG-08: You qualify for the WG-08 level (starting hourly rate $23.56) if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG-7 level performing duties such as: monitoring, receiving, storing, and issuing automotive shop supplies; maintaining the “stock level reports”, “Blanket Purchase Agreements”, catalogs, automotive price sheets, and requisitions supplies; assisting with installing, cleaning, removing, and/or repairing various parts to include, but not limited to, sensors, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, water pumps, filters, batteries, screens, heating and cooling devices, and a variety of belts and hoses; assisting with the assembly or disassembly of major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials; assisting with performing visual and operational checks to locate worn, dirty, or malfunctioning parts; maintaining garage space by removing trash, discarding used parts, cleaning up spilled oil and other fluids; cleaning interior and exterior parts in order to create a flawless appearance for the entire fleet of armored protective vehicles; and delivering vehicles to designated locations.
Selective Placement Factor: You must meet the following placement factors below in order to be considered for this position.
1. Possess a current valid driver's license.
2. Possess 2 or more Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications or a master certification. Applicants must submit a copy of their current ASE certifications (Ford and GM certifications are also acceptable).
Applicant will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook.
