Automation Engineer– Greenville, OH

If you're someone who inspires others, owns their impact and wants to elevate what they do, you'll fit right in.

Until July 1, our business was part of BASF. As part of the current transition, all job listings and the application process are still hosted on the BASF platform and therefore fully presented in BASF branding.

Please do not be confused by this: All roles are positions at Surventis, and your application will be submitted to us.

At Surventis, we go beyond the surface - in everything we do. We put customers at the center, think one step ahead, and develop solutions that create real value and lasting partnerships.

We inspire each other to think further, take ownership of our work, and constantly push to elevate what's possible. If you bring your full self, challenge the obvious answer, and want to grow with a team that means it - this is your place.

We are seeking a professional like you to perform daily responsibilities that include control system programming, including base logic, graphics, and batch programming. You will lead life-cycle strategy/planning efforts for site control systems and training efforts for site automation. You will also work closely with Operations to execute programming modifications to de-bottleneck equipment and improve plant performance and reliability and ensure that all shifts are able to execute the operating plan daily, as intended.

Additionally, you will lead annual functional certification of site automated interlock checkout, support project engineers during the commissioning phase of capital projects involving automation and utilize your technical background and troubleshooting techniques to improve processes and product quality. Lastly, you will provide support for the Data Historians, ensure plant changes or modifications are captured and documented as part of the PSM "Management of Change", and provide technical support for risk assessments on Management of Changes to ensure changes do not jeopardize the safety of plant.

Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Engineer certification or familiarization with safety instrumented systems is highly preferred.

Your day-to-day

  • Maintaining the health of DCS system hardware and software.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the daily Operational Team for plant problems that arise.
  • Making yourself available to be on-call and respond to any after-hour event impacting production or EHS.
  • Providing technical and leadership support in root cause failure analysis for production, EHS, and quality incidents.
  • Identifying Lean opportunities and support implementation.
  • Partnering with the Production Supervisor to maintain safe operation and reliability of the plant.
  • Demonstrating your strong understanding of Process Safety Concepts and their applications on a daily basis. Additionally, you will comply with OSHA and plant specific safety procedures.
  • Executing small- to medium-sized capital projects related to control systems (DCS, PLC, SPLC) will ensure the project and team meet milestones, strategically mitigate risks, solve problems, and increase value.
  • Guiding third-party process control engineers engaged in project support and maintenance support activities.

If you have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or automation engineering. Advanced degrees will be considered as relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in delivering and maintaining process automation and control systems
  • Experience in plant operations in a fast-paced PSM chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of chemical unit operations and equipment, as well as basic instrumentation, controls, and automation.
  • Experience with ABB 800xa (800M controller preferred) and at least one SIS platform (e.g., Triconex, HIMA)
  • Have the ability to quickly learn and analyze complex chemical processes, identify opportunities for improvement, effectively organize and collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present a compelling business case for change to operational managers.
  • Your strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential as you partner with the Production Supervisor to maintain safe operation and reliability of the plant.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.
