About the role
The Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) in the Columbia Climate School invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist (ARS) in crop modeling and agricultural impact.
The position will conduct agricultural impact assessment and process-based crop modeling with global state-of-the-art crop models, incorporating remote sensing information. The position will address timely issues across broad range of applications such as: waterlogging; solar radiation management; atmospheric geoengineering impacts; climate change impacts and adaptation; food security assessments; stakeholder engagement; policy-relevant interventions. It will work at - and across - various time-scales, including historical evaluation, and, long-term projections. The position will become an integral member of the Climate Impacts group, developing competitive proposals and leading research in areas of their expertise. The ARS will also act as PI on Climate School research projects and supervise PhD students and postdoctoral research scholars.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or a similar field and have at least 2 years of post-PhD related experience
- Expertise in remote sensing products and approaches for societal application;
- Ability to advance process-based global crop models using major computational infrastructure;
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate with stakeholders and donors.
- Coding skills including R, FORTRAN, shell, and python;
- Demonstrated international leadership in crop modeling community;
- Demonstrated well-regarded outputs including high-ranking publications and presentations at international workshops or conferences; and,
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a vital member of an ambitious research team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with advanced statistical methods and large-scale data analysis.

Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1, contingent upon performance and funding.
