Associate Director

About This Role

This role focuses on the engineering and design of High Voltage (HV), Extra High Voltage (EHV), and Medium Voltage (MV) substations, specifically the physical (primary) design of AIS/GIS substations. It involves equipment selection, layout engineering, electrical calculations, and the preparation of engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop primary design for AIS and GIS substations from concept through detailed engineering
• Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment layouts, sections, elevations, and plot plans
• Design outdoor switchyards and indoor GIS substations
• Develop busbar arrangements, conductor layouts, and equipment clearances in accordance with CEA Guideline/IEC/IEEE standards
• Perform engineering calculations for: Power transformer sizing, Busbar and conductor sizing, Earthing (grounding) system design, Lightning protection system design, Cable sizing and routing, Station service AC/DC systems, Battery sizing, Illumination calculations, Short-circuit withstand checks, Busbar force calculations
• Prepare technical specifications and datasheets for: Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors & Earthing Switches, Current Transformers (CTs), Voltage Transformers (VTs/CVTs), Surge Arresters, GIS/AIS equipment, Neutral Grounding Equipment, Busducts, Station Service Transformers, HV and MV cables
• Prepare engineering deliverables including: Single Line Diagrams (SLD), General Arrangement (GA) Drawings, Switchyard Layouts, GIS Building Layouts, Equipment Foundation Load Inputs, Cable Trench & Cable Tray Layouts, Busbar Layouts, Earthing Layouts, Lightning Protection Layouts, Bill of Materials (BOM), Material Take-Off (MTO), Design Reports and Calculations
• Review vendor drawings, datasheets, calculations, and GA drawings
• Evaluate technical bids and prepare Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) reports
• Resolve vendor technical queries and document deviations
• Support procurement during equipment selection and approval

Requirements

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering
• Knowledge of AIS/GIS substation design, SLDs, GA drawings, electrical calculations, IEC/IEEE/CEA standards, and AutoCAD
• Relevant experience in HV/EHV substation design is preferred
