Assistant, Laboratory

About This Role

Assisting in the efficient operation of the laboratory is the core of this role, which involves collecting blood samples, processing specimens, registering patients, and performing ECG testing. This position suits an individual with strong organizational and communication skills who can uphold patient rights and adapt to emergency staffing needs.

Responsibilities

• Act as a patient advocate and uphold patient rights
• Assure all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care
• Document in a clear and legible manner
• Recognize and integrate patient special needs and individualize care
• Adapt work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs
• Assist in central processing by receiving specimens, responding to pneumatic tube and answering telephones
• Draw blood samples
• Be responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

• Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program
• BLS through the American Heart Association
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Intermediate computer skills
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull

Nice to have:

• 3+ years of Phlebotomy experience in a hospital and/or high outpatient setting
• (ASCP) PT certification
• Sample prep and reference lab experience
