Role Overview
As an Assistant Head Teacher, you will lead and support the development of a primary school dedicated to pupils with autism and additional needs, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head Teacher to shape the school's vision, curriculum, and staff development.
- Provide hands-on teaching across all primary age groups, with expertise in PSHE and autism strategies like TEACCH and PODD.
- Lead and manage a team, fostering professional growth and high standards of teaching and behaviour.
- Create bespoke, accessible curricula tailored to individual pupil needs, including non-verbal communication methods.
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development, understanding the functions of behaviours.
- Contribute to a positive, well-resourced learning environment that promotes achievement and wellbeing.
- Promote inclusive practices and manage challenging behaviours with flexibility and innovation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with primary teaching experience.
- Strong curriculum knowledge, especially in PSHE and SEN strategies.
- Previous leadership experience, such as Assistant Head or middle leadership role.
- Experience working with pupils with autism, including non-verbal communication and managing challenging behaviours.
- Resilient, dedicated, and passionate about fostering pupils' and staff development.
- Effective leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills to build a cohesive team.
