Position Summary
Columbia University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education offers elite-level student-athletes the ability to compete for and win Ivy League titles and NCAA Championships. With 32 varsity sports, Columbia Athletics is the largest NCAA Division I athletics program in New York City and the only NCAA Division I sports program in Manhattan. The Assistant Director of Intramurals, Club Sports, and Camps is responsible for managing the intramural program and providing administrative assistance for the Director of Intramurals and Club Sports and Director of Camps.
Responsibilities
- Manage the recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating of approximately 40 student intramural employees and 30 sports camp employees per year.
- Conduct day-to-day operations of all intramural activities including but not limited to: manage IMLeagues & Fusion set up, marketing, facility scheduling, review policies and rules, record game results, staff payroll, equipment orders/inventory, risk management, prepare annual and quarterly reports.
- Maintain excellent participant and member relations, effectively communicating with intramural Participants, club sport officers and camper parents/guardians to facilitate high levels of customer service.
- Assist in day-to-day management of the Club Sports program including but not limited to: budget management, travel coordination, officer training, facility scheduling, roster management.
- Assist in day-to-day operations of camp programming including but not limited to: budget management, marketing, risk management, planning camp activities, attendance, facility scheduling.
- Teach one course in the required physical education program per semester.
- Contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Department and assuming other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education
- Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Ivy League, University, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics code of ethics and rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required
- 0 - 2 years related experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership, and professional skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team.
- A working computer knowledge using Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
- Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management, as it pertains to both intramural sports and camp settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in kinesiology, recreation management, sports administration or closely related field.
- One (1+) year of experience in a camp or youth program setting.
- Officiating experience in organized or recreational sports setting
