Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Academic Affairs oversees the various educational programs offered through the School and supports academic excellence. The Office of Academic Affairs staff members often participate in the admissions process and implement curriculum reviews and accreditation.The Office of Academic Affairs offers pre-admission evaluations for prospective DDS students, assists current students with any number of issues, and advocates for the student body to ensure needs are met.
Position Summary
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry (ASOD) is seeking an Assistant Director of Innovative Assessment and Success who will provide leadership in the design, development, maintenance, evaluation, and implementation of assessment processes, assessment data collection and aggregation, and standardized patient (SP) encounters. The Assistant Director will be a lead contributor in the planning, implementation, analysis, and continuous improvement of assessment and evaluation processes and lead all SP activities for the school, including in the DDS, Dental Hygiene, and Graduate programs. The Assistant Director of Innovative Assessment and Success reports to the Director of the of Educational Compliance and Innovation and interfaces directly with Course Directors looking to improve assessment processes and data collection and integrate standardized patient encounters into their courses. In addition to working with faculty, this position directly supports students through orientations and introductions to SPs. Additionally, this position serves as the liaison to the UNC School of Medicine, which hosts these encounters and provides technical capacity.
The Assistant Director is also responsible for designing, creating, maintaining, and tracking a variety of high-level curricular projects including AI and other emerging technology. This includes but is not limited to: Canvas project sites such as the DDS curricular onboarding site, SharePoint sites such as The Commons faculty/staff hub and the Student Commons hub, and e-Learning projects such as faculty and staff trainings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s or Bachelor’s and 0-2 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with faculty, staff, and administrators at all levels of the School and University. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as an effective member of the School’s leadership team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal candidate will have direct job experience in a dental setting. This could be attained through employment as a dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant, or related position. The ideal candidate will also have experience with curriculum design, assessment, CAE standardized patient software, and/or education best practices. Organizational and analytical skills are highly desired.
