Job Details
The Assistant Director for International Student Services works closely with inbound mobility support, including F-1 international and exchange students as well as custom programs. The ISS AD provides comprehensive support to enhance students’ academic, cultural, and personal experiences through advising and programming. The ISS AD serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and is responsible for maintaining and updating U.S. Department of Homeland Security SEVIS records. The Assistant Director advises students on a wide range of topics (e.g., immigration compliance, cultural adjustment, and personal matters) and coordinates programs and events designed to support international student engagement and integration. The ISS AD is also responsible for supporting broader Augustana University’s internationalization efforts, including revenue generating initiatives from recruiting and hosting custom programs to writing and implementing grants.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and assist with SEVIS-related compliance, monitoring international student records in accordance with federal regulations.
- Provide advising to international students on cultural, immigration, and personal issues to ensure their success and well-being.
- Act as the primary contact for the IREX and UGRAD exchange student programs, providing tailored advising to ensure students meet program requirements and successfully integrate into the campus environment.
- Serve as the primary advisor for all exchange students, offering support with academic, cultural, and personal matters to facilitate a positive exchange experience.
- Coordinate programs and events aimed at supporting international students' transition, adjustment, and integration into the campus community, including teaching or co-teaching approximately two sections of the new international student one-credit unit course required for all new F-1 international students.
- Collaborate with the Center for Global Engagement team to advance the university's internationalization goals and ensure comprehensive support services.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of international student events, activities, and initiatives that foster a welcoming campus environment, including but not limited to: orientation, cultural field trips, cultural celebrations, etc.
- Oversee custom programs, including the creation, recruitment, implementation, fiscal stewardship, and assessment of inbound programs, such as the annual high school Norway exchange group for approximately three weeks each January.
- Pursuit of grant opportunities to support global engagement, intercultural learning, and potential recruitment of international students.
- Other duties as assigned.
