Assistant Chemist / Chemist

About This Role

This role is for an Assistant Chemist or Chemist who will support the laboratory operations by performing testing, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality and safety standards. The position suits an entry-level candidate with a background in Chemistry or Science.

Responsibilities

• Determine the confidentiality, integrity, quality, technical, health, and safety aspects of the company
• Assist the Lab Manager / Senior Chemist in all aspects of work in the respective section
• Carry out testing on all aspects of work and calibration of equipment in the respective section when necessary
• Assist in or perform reagent preparation and standardization of standard solutions
• Perform result entry, QC checks, inventory maintenance, basic equipment calibration and maintenance
• Maintain all equipment and testing records in the respective section
• Perform general laboratory work like housekeeping, sample receipt and registration, preparation of sample bottles, and helping to maintain cleanliness of laboratory, equipment, and apparatus
• Highlight abnormalities and discrepancies in the testing, calibration, and results
• Perform the duties of a Quality Officer for the section
• Update test methods and working instructions under supervision when necessary

Requirements

• Possess at least a Diploma/Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Chemistry, Science, or equivalent
• Ability to interact with operational personnel, scientific personnel, and department management
• Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required
• Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time, including working within a laboratory hood and standing at a bench top
• Ability to use PPE (personal protective equipment)
