About the role

Patient Experience:

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
  • Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases.
  • Assist with training of students and new Team Members.
  • Maintain required records, reports, and statistics as needed.
  • Perform specimen processing and technical functions as assigned.

  • Monitor the use of resources and all lab supplies.
  • Utilize work time appropriately.
  • Readily looks for additional tasks during periods of reduced workload.

  • Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
  • Performs high-quality professional lab services by answering telephones, prioritizing and directing calls as needed.
  • Performs all routine tests accurately within established turnaround times.
  • Multi-tasks effectively within the scope of the departmental requirements.

Quality and Patient Safety:

  • Promotes culture of safety for patients and Team Members through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, storage procedures, and regulations.
  • Understands specimen requirements for each test and evaluates specimen for proper identification and integrity through visual checks and result evaluation.
  • Ability to recognize discrepant or unexpected test results, correlating data and monitoring results for reasonableness. Includes troubleshooting and documentation.
  • Follows protocol for instrument maintenance, running controls and accepting, verifying and recording QC results.
  • Recognizes and refers problems and questions outside of own expertise to appropriate supervisory personnel.

Team Member Experience:

  • Interacts with coworkers in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative work environment.
  • Interacts with clients, patients, physicians and other hospital personnel to maintain good customer relations and quality health care.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assists other areas when own workload allows or when a customer service need arises.
  • Acts as a mentor in the training of students and new employees while fostering interest and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technical program or Associates Degree.
  • Must be able to successfully pass ASCP Certification test within 6 months of hire or equivalent certification.
  • Failure to pass will result in termination of employment.
