Brightpoint Community College seeks a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered faculty member to serve as the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Faculty / Lab Director. This full-time, 12-month position provides instructional leadership for the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Workforce Development Lab while teaching credit and non-credit courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, networking, information technology, and related disciplines.

Teaching Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teach credit and workforce development courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, networking, information technology, and related disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum, course materials, student learning outcomes, assessments, and learning activities aligned with program outcomes, workforce needs, and industry certifications.
  • Assess student learning and utilize data to support continuous improvement of courses and programs.
  • Advise, mentor, and support student success, retention, career readiness, and academic progression.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials, certifications, and employment opportunities.
  • Support internships, apprenticeships, work-based learning, recruitment, outreach, and community engagement activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends, and instructional best practices.
  • Participate in accreditation activities, institutional assessment, college service, committee work, and professional development.

Program Chair / Lab Director Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Lab, including physical and virtual learning environments.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain hands-on instructional environments that support artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, networking, cloud computing, and emerging technologies.
  • Oversee laboratory technology resources, including equipment planning, procurement, inventory management, software licensing, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead grant-funded initiatives and workforce development activities, ensuring achievement of project goals, deliverables, timelines, reporting requirements, and performance outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver workforce training programs, boot camps, certification preparation courses, short-term credentials, and customized employer training.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise academic and workforce programs, including student learning outcomes and program assessments, to ensure alignment with industry needs, accreditation standards, and workforce demands.

This is a grant-funded, full-time, 12-month faculty position funded through the GO Virginia Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Workforce Development Initiative. Funding is currently secured for two years, with the potential for extension to a third year based on funding availability, program performance, and institutional needs.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in a qualifying discipline consistent with SACSCOC faculty credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or significant industry experience in cybersecurity, information technology, networking, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, or related technical fields.
  • Demonstrated experience using instructional technologies and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff, employers, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse student populations.
  • Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check.
