About This Role
The Crypto AML Transaction Monitoring Quality Control Analyst performs independent quality control reviews of AML transaction monitoring alerts, investigations, case narratives, escalations, and SAR recommendations completed by investigators for a cryptocurrency exchange. The QC Analyst evaluates whether investigative steps, blockchain tracing, customer-risk analysis, supporting evidence, documentation, and final dispositions are complete, accurate, well-supported, and aligned with client procedures, regulatory expectations, and quality standards. The role requires strong investigative judgment, attention to detail, ability to identify gaps or inconsistencies in case work, and clear communication of QC findings, coaching themes, and remediation requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform independent quality control reviews of AML transaction monitoring alerts and investigations involving cryptocurrency deposits, withdrawals, transfers, fiat funding activity, and customer account behavior
- Assess whether investigators completed required review steps, considered relevant KYC/CDD/EDD information, transaction histories, blockchain activity, device and account data, internal records, open-source intelligence, and other available evidence
- Validate the accuracy and sufficiency of blockchain tracing, wallet-risk analysis, counterparty assessment, transaction-flow explanations, and reconciliation between on-chain activity and off-chain customer records
- Evaluate whether investigators appropriately identified and analyzed digital-asset money laundering and financial crime typologies, including rapid movement of funds, structuring, layering, chain hopping, mixers or obfuscation services, high-risk exchanges, scams, fraud, ransomware, darknet markets, mule activity, sanctions exposure, and unusual cross-border activity
- Review the use of blockchain analytics and wallet-screening tools to confirm that direct and indirect exposure, attribution data, counterparty risk, transaction paths, and supporting tool outputs were accurately interpreted and documented
- Determine whether case conclusions properly considered customer risk, stated business purpose, expected activity, source of funds, source of wealth, occupation or industry, geography, and historical transaction patterns
- Confirm that alert closures, escalations, enhanced reviews, sanctions or fraud referrals, and SAR recommendations are supported by the facts, consistent with client procedures, and appropriately documented
- Review case narratives and SAR narratives for factual accuracy, completeness, clarity, defensibility, linkage to supporting evidence, and alignment with applicable quality standards
- Document QC results, identify defects or required rework, communicate findings to investigators or team leads, and verify that remediation is completed before final case approval when required
- Maintain complete and accurate QC records, including review checklists, defect coding, rationale for findings, supporting examples, remediation status, and evidence of final quality disposition
