ANIMAL LABORATORY SPECIALIST I

General Responsibilities**:**
To perform all duties essential to proper care of laboratory animals and specialized colonies within assigned areas. To work within a specialized or technical team that provides animal care consistent with animal species requirements and established guidelines. To be responsible for upkeep and general maintenance of equipment or systems and to perform physical assessments on animals and recognize signs of illness. To assist in filing and organizing health records for campus wide health surveillance program and to maintain detail records of colonies and to maintain daily animal and room census records.
Key Duties & Responsibilities**:**
- Applies general knowledge of animal biology, husbandry, and animal facility operations to the function of a specialized division of ARP in accordance with requirements and established procedures. Management of species could vary dependent upon specialized group, but may include working with species within aquatic tanks, isolators, containment, quarantine, etc. and/or support equipment/operations.
- Maintains knowledge of any training general requirements set forth within ARP and/or related to the specialized area.
- Serves as specialized area contact and as a resource for any and all staff and guests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Pay Range**:** $15.50 – $25.20
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience required. Certified at any level by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) preferred.
