About This Role
An Angular developer will take ownership of the architecture and technical direction of the company's core fintech platform frontend, which is replacing a legacy system. This role involves working closely with an existing Angular developer, bringing engineering depth in Angular while the team provides strong product knowledge. The position suits a sharp engineer who cares about how an application is put together and is comfortable making and defending architectural calls.
Responsibilities
- Own architectural decisions for the Angular codebase: state management, component structure, performance, and testing strategy
- Work closely with the existing Angular developer to shape the application's design and implementation
- Collaborate with the Python/AWS backend team to get API design and data contracts right
- Use AI coding tools as a core part of your workflow, and help set the conventions and guardrails (reviews, tests, context, and prompts) that keep AI-assisted code consistent with the architecture
- Keep the codebase maintainable as the platform grows and replaces the legacy system
- Work with business users to understand requirements and turn them into technical ones
- Estimate, plan, and deliver your own work, and explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical colleagues
Requirements
- Competent with modern Angular (v19+, Signals, RxJS–Signals interop), RxJS, and TypeScript
- 1–3 years' commercial frontend development experience with Angular
- Took ownership of architectural decisions (e.g., state management, component structure, testing) on at least one Angular project
- A 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in a scientific or technical subject
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) in your development work, with the judgment to review, test, and correct what they produce
- Experience with Git, GitHub, and an issue tracker (YouTrack, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar)
Nice to have:
- Experience with AWS or another cloud platform, or a Python backend framework (FastAPI, Django, or similar)
- Experience inheriting or significantly restructuring an existing codebase
- Frontend testing frameworks (Vitest, Jest, Playwright, Cucumber)
- Working with design systems (Figma or equivalent)
- Object-oriented and/or functional programming experience
- Comfortable on Unix-based systems (macOS)
Benefits
- Immediate influence over a platform's technical direction
- Work in a fast-moving, engineering-led business with the agility of a startup
- Work in an AI-first engineering team, with the latest AI development tools provided
- Build a platform with significant growth ahead as it takes over from a legacy system
- Work directly with the backend team and business users, with clear visibility of the impact of your work
- Learn how a regulated financial services business operates from the inside
