About the role

Duties

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations.
  • Assigns tasks to be performed.
  • Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies.
  • Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed.
  • Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an environment which is well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Some work may be performed under field conditions. Incumbents is subject to normal hazards of the trade skills supervised to include the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, shocks, and broken bones, and serious burns.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Employee frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally handles items greater than 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Works in a sitting positions for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping are required. Occasionally climbs and works in high places.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  Experience which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following:

  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to use all types of hand tools, and measuring equipment related to this occupational series.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to set up and operate machining tools and using hand tools to make or repair parts, tools, gauges, models, patterns, mechanisms and machines.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.
  • Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.
  • Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to plan and organize the work of the assigned machine tool work organizations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of machine tool work functions.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to oversee and train subordinate supervisors, to deal objectively with workers and render sound supervisory decisions.
  • Ability to devise new methods.
