Aircraft Mechanic

Duties

Performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include phase inspection, daily inspections, pre and post flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc. Troubleshoots, diagnose, and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies and surfaces. Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks, and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns, and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting specialists as required. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional test of all aircraft systems. Services aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launches and recovers assigned and transient aircraft; performs inspections prior to takeoff. Inspects for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leaks, cut lines, tires and loose panels. May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly, inspection and re-assembly of Army aircraft and associated components in order to return the aircraft and components to serviceable condition or classify them for higher level repair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs). KSAs listed below will be used in the selection process. KSAs are important to the entire selection process and should be addressed specifically and completely within your job experience portions of your resume.

1. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.

2. Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.

3. Knowledge of Army aircraft electrical, fuel, rotor, airframe, power-train, hydraulic, environmental and mechanical systems and components.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
